Mom Poems About Death

by Jason on July 2, 2011

Yesterday, I received a request from a daughter who had just lost her mother last month.  Grace Castillo wrote me the following story, sent a picture of her mom and asked me to write a poem in honor of her mom’s death and how much she missed her.  The following is from Grace:

“Hi, I ran across this page while looking for poems.   I’m very excited you can put together a poem for me.  My mom, Rose Marrero, passed away May 7, 2010.  I’d like to make a poem for her.  She was 83 when she died.  She had an operation called aortic valve surgery.  She made it through for a few weeks.  Then as the weeks went by all her organs started going due to also having Diabetes.  This was so painful for me and my other three sisters to see.  I just want a very touching poem in honor of her that I miss her, I think of her always and that she is so loved and missed by her daughters.  My mom lived with me and my sister after my brother passed away in her arms on Sept 1 2006.  My mom has seen her son, Leslie, die in May of 1995, her husband in April of 1988 and her oldest son who died in her arms Sept 1 2006.  I just want an inspirational poem in honor of her and the love and how we miss her so much and that she is free now from pain, sorrow and sadness.  My name is Grace Castillo.”

The following is Grace’s Mom poem I wrote for her and her family.

A Mother’s Love From the Other Side of the Veil

Daughters, hush your cries and your fears
I am here to wipe away your tears
I was with you for all these years
And in this moment I am still here

For me, do not feel sorrow
My pain, but a moment borrowed
My death, a new beginning in time
Inside your hearts, you’ll always be mine

Your prayers and your yearnings I hear
Your love shines through loud and clear
My daughters, words you do not need
For our hearts are of the same seed

My sons, whose deaths had broken my heart
From them I am no longer apart
By my side now we embrace in tears of joy
A reunion of pure love with my boys

Happiness reigns inside our hearts here
Let joy filter back into your souls, my dears
Live every day as if it were your last
Loving and serving with no thought of the past

Your new guardian angel I now profess
Protecting my daughters from emptiness
Although your mother you might dearly miss
In but a moment we’ll be together in bliss

Spanish Translation

Un Amor de la Madre del Otro Lado del Velo

Mis hijas, callen tus lloras y miedos
Aqui estoy para enjugar tus lagrimas
Estaba con ustedes todos estos anos
Y en este momento aqui estoy todavia

Para mi, no se sientan tristeza
Mi dolor, solo un momento prestado
Mi muerte, un comienzo nuevo en tiempo
Dentro tus corazones, siempre seran mias

Tus oraciones y tus ruegos oigo
Tu amor brilla fuerte y con claridad
Mis hijas, palabras no se necesitan
Porque nuestros corazones son de la misma semilla

Mis hijos, cuyos muertes habian roto mi corazon

Aunque a tu madre te hace falta bastante
Dentro de un momento estaremos juntos en felicidad
