I wrote this life poem about finding my purpose. After being limited for so long I finally realized I can do anything I want. I’m not limited. I realized I have a universe of infinite possibility in front of me. I have also written a number of poems about life that I hope you enjoy here about finding my purpose and other musings.
I Can Do Anything
I thought I was limited
I didn’t have much ability
There wasn’t much opportunity
I was supposed to follow society
Even the best books of the time
Could only possibly recommend
Something other than what my soul wanted
Something not generated from my own heart
Every well-intentioned guidance from family and friends
Every idea of my life how to live
Every concept of how to earn money
Every path already carved out
Led me down a path not true to myself
Had me attempting to seek what was “right”
Caused me to look outside of myself
And trust in someone or something which knew better than me
I wondered why happiness eluded me
I wondered why I wasn’t fulfilled
I didn’t know I wasn’t doing what I wanted
I didn’t know I wasn’t following my own guidance
Every concept I had of what I should do
I was only following what I thought was right
Not knowing that what was right for me
Could not be told to me by anyone else
Now that the perceptions and opinion around me
The guidance from which I led my life by
Every layer has fallen by the wayside
Exposing the tender beating heart within me
I see the truth of what can fulfill me
Existing within me hidden from view
The loud noise distracting my attention
From the only guidance which knows what is right for me
The simplicity and fulfillment I had been seeking
The golden truth I had been seeking in faraway places
My life’s purpose, the meaning of it all
Lay within the recesses of my heart
I love to write and create
I love taking pictures of nature
I love sitting and connecting with other human beings
I love teaching and imparting to others
I love so many more things I can’t list here
Which I now realize I am free to create
My soul’s whisperings are now my compass
After years in the background now guiding my life
